Shotfinder is a product about keeping your footage to yourself, so it would be strange to be cagey here. This is the plain version.
The app never uploads your files. Indexing and search run entirely on your own Mac, using your Mac's own chip. There is no account, no cloud, and no telemetry — the app works with the internet switched off, and we cannot see your library, your searches, or your filenames. Not because we promise not to look, but because none of it ever reaches us.
Everything below is about this website, which — like any website that runs ads and a waitlist — does collect some things.
Shotfinder is run by one person from Kitchener, Ontario. Our postal address is 165 King Street West, Unit 301, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A7, Canada, and the only email address that matters is hello@shotfinderapp.com. We're based in Canada, so PIPEDA and CASL govern how we handle your details and how we're allowed to email you — wherever in the world you happen to be reading this.
If you join the waitlist, we collect what you typed: your name, your email, and your answers to the questions (what you shoot, how much footage you have, what you'd search for first). We use it to send you the beta and to decide what to build. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone outside the companies listed below.
If you just visit, an advertising pixel from Meta (Facebook) records the visit. This runs on every page of this site, not only pages reached from an ad, and it sets a cookie. It exists so we can tell which of our ads are worth the money. It sees the page you're on — nothing else, and never anything from inside the app.
We do not run Google Analytics or any other general-purpose tracking.
We're one person, so a few companies do jobs on our behalf. Each of them only receives what they need:
| Who | What they get | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Waitlister | Your name, email, and form answers | They store the waitlist |
| Resend | Your name and email | They send the emails |
| Meta | That a visit or signup happened, and which page | Ad measurement |
| Spaceship | Standard web server logs, including your IP | They host the site |
One, and it's Meta's advertising cookie described above. We set no analytics cookies and no cookies of our own. If you'd rather not have it, an ad blocker or your browser's tracking protection will stop it, and the site works perfectly well without it.
Your waitlist entry stays until you ask us to delete it, or until the waitlist is obviously finished with — whichever comes first. Server logs age out on our host's normal schedule.
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely. Email hello@shotfinderapp.com and we'll do it — properly, and within 30 days. You don't need to give a reason, and it won't be made awkward.
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing means we stop. If you're in the UK or EU, our legal basis for holding your details is your consent (you filled in the form) and our legitimate interest in running a waitlist for a product you asked about.
We don't sell your personal information — not for money, not for anything else, and we never will.
One nuance worth being straight about: California's privacy law (the CCPA, as amended) treats letting an advertising network see your visit as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, even when no money changes hands. The Meta pixel described above does exactly that. So: we share that limited signal with Meta, and nothing else. Not your name, not your email, not your form answers.
To stop it, you can do any of these, and all of them work:
Whatever state you're in — California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, or anywhere else with a privacy law — you can ask us what we hold, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Same address, same 30 days, and we won't discriminate against you for asking.
We send from Canada, so CASL applies to every email we send, to everyone, everywhere — and it's stricter than most. You joined by filling in a form, which is express consent. Every email we send identifies us, carries our postal address, and has a working unsubscribe link. One click and we stop. No “are you sure?”, no survey, no delay.
Under PIPEDA you can ask to see what we hold, have it corrected, or withdraw your consent entirely, at any time, by emailing hello@shotfinderapp.com.
This isn't a product for children and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.
We'll update this page and change the date at the top. If it ever changes in a way that actually affects you, we'll email you rather than quietly editing it.
